What kind of tours do you organize?
Welcome to Moroccan Expeditions Travel! We specialize in arranging exclusive
Morocco tours that are tailored to meet the unique needs of travelers worldwide.
Together, we craft every tour with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that it aligns
perfectly with your desired travel dates, preferences, and style. Our goal is to create
an experience that is truly personalized for you.
Our trips are designed to be flexible, allowing you to shape your itinerary according to
the specific experiences you desire. We understand the importance of striking a
balance between independent exploration and guided visits that enhance your
journey. Whether you choose to venture out on your own or seek the guidance of our
knowledgeable drivers and expert guides, we ensure that you are well-supported
throughout your travels.
At Moroccan Expeditions Travel, your satisfaction is our top priority. Join us on a
remarkable adventure where you have the freedom to discover at your own pace,
knowing that assistance is always available when you need it.
What kind of transportation do you use on your trips?
For our private trips, we have a fleet of brand-new Hyundai H1 minivans at your
disposal. These spacious vehicles are perfect for accommodating up to four or five
adults, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey. However, when the group size
exceeds six individuals, we opt for minibusses that can comfortably seat 12 to 17
passengers.
In addition, for destinations that are more remote or require traversing rugged
terrains, we have recently acquired state-of-the-art Toyota Landcruiser 4x4s. These
robust vehicles are specifically utilized for tours that venture into such areas,
providing you with the necessary reliability and comfort for a seamless travel
experience.
Is my driver also my guide?
At Moroccan Expeditions Travel, our approach sets us apart from other operators in
Morocco. Drawing on years of experience, we have carefully crafted a unique
balance between our drivers and guides, ensuring a seamless and enriching journey.
Your driver is not just a driver; they serve as your tour host and trusted companion
throughout your adventure. We take pride in our exceptional drivers, who we
consider to be the finest in the entire country. Many of them possess advanced
English degrees, enabling them to engage with you on a deeper cultural level. Their
role extends beyond ensuring your safety on the roads; they also serve as a gateway
to local culture and the regions you’ll be exploring.
In areas where their expertise is most valuable, our guides are strategically located.
In captivating cities like Fez and Marrakesh, you’ll have a certified city guide at your
side for at least one day, unveiling the wonders of ancient medinas. Furthermore, in
other regions, you’ll have the opportunity to meet our local regional guides, whom we
affectionately refer to as coordinators. These guides will lead you into their villages,
open their homes to you, and offer profound insights into their specific areas of the
country.
This carefully maintained balance ensures that you have access to expert guidance
when necessary, while still allowing ample time for independent exploration,
whenever it is both feasible and rewarding. With Moroccan Expeditions Travel, you’ll
have the best of both worlds—a team of knowledgeable professionals supporting
your journey, combined with the freedom to discover at your own pace.
Can I join a group tour of Morocco with you?
In the early stages of our journey in organizing Morocco tours, we used to offer group
trips. However, our approach has evolved over time, and currently, we no longer
provide scheduled departure dates for group excursions in Morocco. Occasionally,
we can attempt to pair solo travelers together upon request (and we encourage solo
travelers to reach out to us), but such arrangements are not always feasible. It’s
important to note that traveling as a single traveler can be a more expensive option.
Nonetheless, we warmly welcome solo travelers and have had the pleasure of
hosting numerous individuals exploring Morocco with us each year. Therefore, if you
are interested in embarking on a solo adventure, we are open to accommodating
your needs and making it a memorable experience.
When is the best time to travel to Morocco?
Morocco welcomes travelers throughout the year, so seize any chance you have to
visit this beautiful country! However, for optimal weather conditions, the
recommended periods are during Spring (March to early June) when the climate is pleasant. Additionally, September and October also offer amazing weather, although
the scenery may not be as green. The busiest times in Morocco are Easter week, the
Christmas holidays, as well as the months of May and October. If you prefer less
crowded travel periods that still offer worthwhile experiences, consider the first two
weeks of June or the month of November.
To ensure a smooth and well-organized trip during peak seasons, we advise
arranging your customized Morocco tour at least three to six months in advance.
While we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests, it can be challenging
during certain times of the year. If you have questions about traveling during
Ramadan, we encourage you to read our Morocco Ramadan article for detailed
information. While some may suggest avoiding travel during Ramadan, we offer a
different perspective. Ramadan provides a unique opportunity for cultural immersion,
and it can be a wonderful experience for those seeking a deeper understanding of
Moroccan traditions.
What is the weather like in Morocco?
Morocco, a land of contrasts, boasts a unique blend of cold and hot elements. This
mantra resonates when exploring the country. The weather during your trip will
predominantly depend on the time of year you choose to visit, as Morocco’s climate
is as diverse as its breathtaking landscapes.
Coastal areas experience temperatures ranging from 12°C (54°F) in winter to 25°C
(77°F) in summer. Inland regions, however, can be significantly hotter, while the High
Atlas and Middle Atlas Mountain ranges offer cooler climates. As a relatively dry
country, you can expect occasional rainfall in the northern regions and snowfall in the
mountains during winter and early spring.
Marrakesh holds the distinction of being Morocco’s hottest city, with temperatures
soaring as high as 54°C (129°F) in summer, reflecting the intensity of the sun’s rays.
When planning your visit to Morocco, consider the seasonal variations and pack
accordingly to ensure your comfort throughout your journey.
Should I purchase trip insurance for my Morocco trip?
In today’s world of modern travel, it is highly advisable to obtain travel insurance for
your customized Morocco tour. We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive
insurance coverage that includes cancellation, interruption, and medical protection,
ensuring your peace of mind in case of unforeseen emergencies during your journey.
Upon confirming your excursion with our company, we will provide you with a list of
reputable insurance providers that have been recommended by our previous clients.
These recommendations serve as valuable guidance to help you select an insurance
policy that suits your specific travel needs.
Investing in travel insurance ensures that you are adequately protected throughout
your Morocco tour, allowing you to focus on enjoying your experience to the fullest.

Do I need to tip in Morocco?
Given the significant role that travel plays in Morocco’s economy, tipping
has become a customary practice throughout the country. It is common to
tip around 10% for various services, particularly those provided by
individuals in the service industry. If you are satisfied with your driver’s
service, it is certainly appropriate to offer a gratuity.
When you book your customized Morocco tour with us, we provide a
a comprehensive chart that outlines appropriate tipping etiquette for various
individuals you may encounter during your journey, including porters,
maids, and other service providers. This chart serves as a helpful
reference, ensuring that you have the necessary guidance to navigate
tipping situations and show your appreciation appropriately.
By following these guidelines, you can engage in respectful tipping
practices and contribute to the positive impact of tourism on the local
economy while enjoying your tailored Morocco tour.
Should I exchange money before arriving in Morocco?
Although the Moroccan dirham is a closed currency, some individuals have
discovered that it is possible to acquire dirhams outside of the country. However, it is
important to note that obtaining dirhams outside of Morocco often comes at a higher
cost. To ensure the most favorable exchange rates, we recommend utilizing the
numerous automatic bank machines (ATMs) available throughout the country. This is
considered the most convenient and reliable method of obtaining Moroccan currency.
For further information about Morocco’s currency, we have a helpful article available
on our website. It offers valuable insights and additional details that will assist you in

Introduction to Morocco
Morocco is a Constitutional Monarchy, led by King Mohammed VI since 1999, with
robust security measures in place. The country is considered safe for travel. It is
advisable for women to dress modestly, avoiding revealing attire. The literacy rate for women is below 50%, and unemployment rates are high. The educational system is viewed as old-fashioned and conservative.
Moroccan society is predominantly male-dominated, particularly in rural areas, where
men are often engaged in business and socializing while women tend to work at
home or in the fields. Despite being a liberal Muslim nation, Morocco retains
conservative elements, with numerous mosques and minarets dotting the landscape.
Respectful behavior near mosques is expected, refraining from entering or taking
photographs during prayer times.
Most Moroccan women do not wear full black gowns and veils. Instead, they wear
colorful djellabas (long gowns with hoods) and headscarves or opt for western
clothing. Djellabas are also worn by men, typically in more subdued colors. Family
holds great significance in Moroccan culture, often encompassing extended relatives.
Greetings are highly valued, and it is considered impolite to neglect saying hello or
goodbye. Seek permission before taking photographs, as some Moroccans may
prefer not to be photographed.
Islam is the widely practiced religion in Morocco, with its foundations in the teachings
of the prophet Mohammed. Muslims observe Ramadan, a holy month of fasting from
sunrise to sunset, as a means of purification and empathy for the less fortunate. The
fast is broken after the sunset prayer with a meal called “ftor.” While Islam follows a
lunar-based calendar, Morocco predominantly uses the Gregorian calendar for daily
affairs.

Geography
Morocco’s landscape is a reflection of its rich cultural heritage and
language, offering a diverse array of natural wonders. Similar to California
in the United States, Morocco encompasses mountains, deserts, beaches,
and forests. The northern region, including Chefchaouen, is adorned with
the majestic Rif Mountains, while the coastal areas enjoy a Mediterranean
climate. In the central part of the country, you’ll find the Middle Atlas
Mountains with its captivating cedar forests, while the southern region, near
Marrakesh, is dominated by the towering High Atlas Mountains, home to
North Africa’s highest peak, Jbel Toubkal (4068 meters). These mountains
serve as a natural boundary, separating Morocco’s lush valleys and
coastline from the rugged terrain of the Sahara Desert. This diverse topography contributes to the enchanting allure of Morocco, which you’ll
have the opportunity to discover firsthand during your vacation with our
experienced team.
Money & Shopping
Money exchange can be done at most banks in major cities and towns like
Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Erfoud, Ifrane, Meknes, Fez, and
Tangier. While credit cards are not widely accepted, they can be used at larger
hotels, major department stores, supermarkets, and some tourist-oriented shops.
ATM machines are widely available, allowing you to withdraw funds using a Visa or
MasterCard debit card. Remember to inform your bank about your travel plans and
know your PIN number. Traveler’s checks cannot be used.
When shopping, bargaining is essential. The initial price quoted to you is often
inflated, so be prepared to negotiate. Maintain a firm yet friendly approach, state your
desired price, and engage in haggling. If an agreement cannot be reached, thank the
vendor and walk away. Feel free to shop around and compare prices before making
a decision.
It’s important to note that if you negotiate a price and agree to buy an item, backing
out may offend the vendor. Cash payment in the local currency is preferred at shops,
as credit card machines are not widely available and some shop owners may not be
familiar with their usage, leading to potential billing issues. ATMs are accessible
throughout the country.
Internet, Phone, Post, and Health
The riads and hotels we work with provide complimentary WiFi to guests, although
WiFi availability in each room cannot be guaranteed. Typically, the best WiFi
connection is found in public areas such as central courtyards. While the internet in
Morocco is generally accessible and reliable, it may vary in different hotels. It is
advisable to bring your own laptop or tablet, which can be safely stored in your room.
If you wish to make calls home, using Skype should work well.
Morocco operates on a GSM network commonly used in Europe and offers excellent
coverage throughout the country. Before using your phone abroad, contact your
service provider to ensure compatibility in Morocco. If you have an unlocked
smartphone, you can purchase a local SIM card in Morocco for 20-50 dh, providing
you with a local Moroccan number for making and receiving calls within the country
and from abroad. Maroc Telecom is recommended for its coverage and rates.
The country code for Morocco is +212 (00212). Morocco utilizes a 220-volt electrical
system with double-pronged plugs commonly found in Europe, particularly France.
Most personal electronic devices such as computers, tablets, and phones are
designed to support 110-220 volts. It is advisable to check your devices before
traveling.
Post offices can be found in major cities and towns, although they may be somewhat
challenging to locate. Stamp prices are reasonable, and you can send packages via regular or express mail. Local vendors are also available to assist with international
shipping arrangements.
Every city and town in Morocco has public hospitals, private clinics, pharmacies, and
dentists. Some hospitals and clinics operate 24/7, as do certain pharmacies. Look for
a white sign with a green crescent moon to locate a pharmacy. Prescription
medications and motion-sickness medicine can be purchased without a doctor’s note,
and the cost of medicine is generally affordable.
